Buying your first home on the Mornington Peninsula

Loans

We’ll make your first home loan feel simple

Saving for, buying and paying off your first home can feel like a big step. It’s definitely worth it, and you don’t have to work it all out on your own.

Pauline and Derek will explain how much you can borrow, which grants and schemes you may be eligible for, and what you’ll need to save. Then we compare loans, get you pre-approved and guide you all the way to the keys.

Grants and schemes that could help

There are a few government programs designed to help first home buyers. We’ll check which ones you’re eligible for and how they can work together.

First Home Owner Grant

A Victorian grant for eligible first home buyers buying or building a new home.

Stamp duty savings

Eligible first home buyers in Victoria may pay no stamp duty, or less stamp duty, depending on the price of the home.

5% Deposit Scheme

An Australian Government scheme that can help eligible buyers into a home with a 5% deposit and no Lenders Mortgage Insurance.

Help from family

A family guarantee lets parents use equity in their own home to help you buy sooner.

What you’ll need to buy your first home

Lenders usually want a deposit of between 5% and 20% of the purchase price, plus enough to cover upfront costs. These can include stamp duty (if it applies), conveyancing, building and pest inspections, loan fees and moving costs.

If your deposit is under 20%, you may need to pay Lenders Mortgage Insurance, unless you use a scheme like the 5% Deposit Scheme or a family guarantee.

We’ll give you a clear picture of the full cost before you start making offers.
